Thoughts on St. Claire, Haiti from Agnes Supernavage, parishioner

Thoughts from Agnes Supernavage, St Ann parishioner and Haiti “summer camper”…….

In 2001, I read in St. Ann Bulletin about a volunteer trip to Haiti organized by the Archdiocese of Baltimore. I applied and spent 2 weeks helping with small projects in the Diocese of Gonaives. I went with the idea of doing good by giving of myself. Oh boy…was I wrong when I thought I would be the giver! I received so much more than I gave during that trip!

That first contact with the people of Haiti changed my life in ways that I would never have anticipated.

St. Ann parish at the time had a fledgling relationship with St. Claire parish in Dessalines. It gave me the foundation to remain involved with Haiti. The relationship with St. Claire developed into a mutually fulfilling partnership and I remained committed to be an active part of it. I thank God every day for showing me that I was “good enough” to serve and for filling my heart with the love of Haiti and its people.
