FAITHFUL STEWARDS – IT’S WHO WE ARE!
FAITHFUL STEWARDS – IT’S WHO WE ARE! Gratitude is the key to living a faithful stewardship life. It leads us to worship God – the giver of our salvation. If we see how truly blessed we are & recognize with humility where it comes from, we then express our gratitude through the spiritual practice that comes to us from the Bible – tithing. There are 3 basic things to know about tithing:
- What is it? - It is a way to thank God for all of our blessings by returning the first 10% portion of our treasure back God in gratitude and living thankfully with the 90% that remains . Tithing is a mature and adult approach to living our faith – it is a prayerful discernment between you and God alone (no one will be calling you and no pledge cards are turned in).
- How does it work? - Ideally, you contribute 5 percent of your income to the parish & contribute the other 5 percent to other church ministries and/or charities that you choose to support. This helps us as a parish community of faithful disciples of Jesus to grow together in holiness & continue to provide the ministries we share that touch so many lives with the good news of the Gospel of Christ.
- What does it do? Putting God first in our lives by tithing gradually produces real spiritual growth and inner change. Embracing this spiritual practice with courage, surrender and trust that God will provide all that we need brings a freedom and joy that comes in living firstly and fully for God.
This week – take time to pray about tithing. Pray for God (who is never outdone in generosity) to give you the courage to trust & surrender to Him, so that you can make the choice to put God first in your life. Pray, too, for our Saint Ann parish community of faith – that, together, we will respond to God’s call to live a Stewardship Way of Life!
Next week – learn how the spiritual practice of tithing also helps us to be faithful stewards who share our gifts of time & talent.
